4th of July 2016

No  surprise that we were up in Maine for the 14th! This was my 31st Fourth of July and it was one of the best ones yet :) We had 15 of our friends and family (some of whom have been coming for 6 years in a row!) up for the long weekend and filled it with lots of beach, BBQ, lobster, and fires. Here's a recap in pictures of our weekend :)
I flew into Maine late Wednesday night and used Thursday to buy a car (see pic below!), run errands, pick strawberries, and wait for our first group of guests to arrive. I've always wanted to go strawberry picking at Maxwells Farm, but haven't had the time. So this year, it was the first thing I did and manage to get 8.5 lbs. of strawberries!

Tyler and I decided it was time to purchase a bigger car to haul all of the Owen's stuff. The first thing I did Thursday morning was buy a car. We wanted a mid-size SUV so it would fit into our parking garage in NYC and the Ford Escape was one of the few cars that would. It's kind of funny because for the two major purchases in our lives, our apartment and now this car, we've each done solo. For our apartment purchase, I was out of town when Tyler went and saw the apartment and made an offer and for the car, Tyler was working in NYC and I negotiated and made the offer solo. Good thing we have similar taste and trust each other :) We're so thrilled with our new purchase!
Thursday night, I had dinner with my cousin and two friends at a new restaurant called Scales. It's owned by the same people that opened Fore Street and Street & Co. and the food is really good!
On Friday, we ventured to the beach and then grabbed lobster rolls at Fort Williams from Maine Eats. It is the BEST lobster roll any of us have had!
They offer 5 different variations of lobster rolls and each of us got a different one. The amount of lobster meat on these bad boys is amazing!
Tyler really enjoyed his lobster roll :)
A very New England photo....American flag, tip of a lighthouse, and a lobster roll sign :)
After long naps in the backyard under the maple tree, we grilled chicken skewers (I'll do a separate post on recipes as these skewers were delicious!) and veggies and had more lobster!
Hanging out waiting for dinner to be cooked
 Love Josh's selfies
Cooked lobster as an appetizer :) We got 5 lobsters for $36 cooked - such a deal!
Our backyard oasis - we spend so much time here and just added new lights around the patio, which are so great and provide so much light.
We spent lots of time around the fire making S'mores.
For breakfast, we used the strawberries to make ricotta cheese toast with honey and the fresh strawberries.
In the afternoon, we did the Cliff walk around Black Point Inn, which was gorgeous.
My cousin Michael posing on the rocks on our walk.
 Rodger Godell's house...can't be missed!
We grabbed lunch at Black Point Inn after the walk.
And then headed to Red's for ice cream!
We of course had lobster for dinner :)
Tyler and I got Josh and Jimmy these lobster hats when we were in Bar Harbor ;)

Josh and Michael being Josh and Michael :)
I made strawberry biscuits, which were to die for with our fresh strawberries!
We headed to Pine Point to see my aunt and uncle's new house and hang out at their beach. They're place is sooooo great and literally right on the water!
On the actual 4th, we headed to Willard Beach by our house and walked to Spring Point Lighthouse.
 Group selfie!
We made these frozen apps and coincidentally, they were organized into a flag :)
Jimmy and Tyler hanging out in between their beer pong victories!
 More fire time!
 More Red's!

I thought it would be fun to take pics of everyone who had visited for the 4th with the lobster hats :)
 Willard Beach - my fav!
We tried out a new restaurant, Terlingua, that's a BBQ joint with my aunt and uncle, which was phenomenal. The owner is from Austin and you can literally smell the BBQ blocks away.
And what would be a trip to Maine without some work? We found this rocking chair in the attic and I hadn't gotten around to upholstering the seat until this week. I think it came out pretty good!
Tyler makes the chair look tiny!
And we upholstered all of the dinning room seats....I LOVE this fabric and can't believe how great the chairs came out. It makes such a world of difference!
