Blankets for the girls

I have knitted several baby blankets over the years for friends, including one when Logan was born. So, when I found out I was pregnant with a girl (yes we only thought we were having one), I took out my knitting needles and the baby blanket pattern and yarn I had gotten as a gift from a craft store that closed in Los Altos. The yarn is my favorite, Alchemy Temple, and now hard to find since my knitting store, Purl Soho, no longer sells it. The colors I used were Tangerine, Bougainvillea, Turquoise Pool, Salt Lick, Chica Pop, and then as a base, I used Tall Cotton (6 balls). I had a few long work trips and was able to finish the blanket really quickly.

And then, we had our 14 month nuchal scan and our world was flipped upside down. We went in for the ultrasound (mind you, we had already had an ultrasound and tests done and only saw one baby in those scans) and the technician was starting to get going. Tyler and I were both looking at the screen and it was pretty clear there were two babies on the screen, but neither of us said anything - we both had figured we weren't reading it correctly. And then, the technician said, "here's baby A and here's baby B" and that's when I flew up and said there's no possible way there's a second in there. And Tyler, without skipping a beat, said, "well, you like to run things efficiently." And I'm pretty sure I blacked out after that! All I wanted was a glass of wine, but that clearly wasn't possible. So, I settled on chicken nuggets and fries from McDonald's. We then called our parents who didn't believe us at first and the rest is history. So, that's the long explanation of why I needed to knit two blankets!

So, for the second blanket, I decided to follow a similar pattern to one I had made previously and updated the pattern to take advantage of the number of spools I had of each color. I ended up needing 6 spools of yarn because I wanted extra to make a matching hat, which my mom is doing. I purchased Cascade Yarn Superwash 128 from Purl Soho and cast on 100 stitches and knitted each row.

Here's the pattern I came up with:
