New Years in South Beach, Miami

Happy New Year! It's hard to believe it's already January 2019....I do not know where 2018 went! We run in the new year in Miami; since moving to NYC, Tyler and I have planned a new years trip to somewhere warm to start the year off with lots of vitamin D. This year, we headed to South Beach and my mom and Chris came to help us with Logan. We stayed at the W South Beach hotel and got two adjoining rooms, which made our rooms so much more functional. Despite being a W hotel, we found the hotel to be super family friendly and the rooms came equipped with a fridge and microwave so we could make meals for Logan. We also had a little living room and a nice balcony that overlooked the beach. The location was also perfect making it super easy to get to some great restaurants for dinner.

Logan was obsessed with the shower!
Overall, we had a really nice time and enjoyed the beautiful 82 degree weather. Unfortunately, Mr. Logan got sick for a second time and we had to take him to urgent care where he was diagnosed with yet another round of double ear infections, pink eye, and a cough that would make him sick :( While the days were great spent at the pool or the beach, the evenings were challenging as our little nugget would get into horrible coughing fits and get sick. That said, we made the most of being in a beautiful place and enjoyed being outside and some fantastic meals! We have lots of recommendations for places to go.

Our first night, we headed to Orange Blossom for dinner, which is also good for brunch. It's American food, only two blocks from the hotel, and they have a high chair, which made it a good spot for us.

On Saturday, my mom and I treated ourselves to facials at Skin by Tatum and then went to one of the best steak houses I've ever been to, StripSteak. Josh had organized an early dinner at this restaurant and treated us all to a fantastic meal; the steak was out of this world and the service was impeccable. It was easily my favorite steak meal EVER.

On Sunday, Tyler and I had a date night and had made reservations at another steak house (this was before we knew we were being treated to StripSteak), Quality Meats. We ate at Quality Meats in NYC for one of our annual Christmas dinners and really enjoyed it, so we decided to give it a try in Miami. It was pretty hard to compare after eating the best steak the night before, but we enjoyed eating outside and people watching. The service was pretty poor, which was surprising, but the corn brulee and bread were really delicious.

For actual new years, Tyler and I treated ourselves to massages and enjoyed really good smoothies from Joe the Juice (2 blocks from the hotel). We felt like staying in, so we ended up getting food to go and hanging out on our balcony and enjoying an early night. It was nice taking a night off, especially since our little nugget wasn't feeling well.

On our last night, Tyler and I enjoyed another date night out at Yard Bird, which is delicious southern food. My brother had highly recommended this place and my mom and Chris had gone the night before. We highly recommend getting any of the biscuits or the fried green tomato BLT. For dinner, Tyler and I shared the chicken and waffles, which were amazing and got the cauliflower mashed potatoes and crispy brussels sprouts. For dessert, we did the brownie sundae and then called it a night.

Other places that we recommend from previous trips in Miami:
  • Billy's Sushi
  • Suviche - Sushi
  • Puerto Sagura Restaurant (700 Collins Ave Miami Beach, FL 33139) - Cuban diner for lunch
  • Le Sanwicherie - sandwiches to go
  • Broken Shaker - Cocktails
