I bought a ton of apples at Whole Foods and thought it would be fun to try roasting them for dessert and then make Logan more applesauce. I peeled all of the apples and then used an apple slicer, which cut all of the pieces evenly and makes them easier to bake. I followed this recipe but didn't have cardamon, so just left it out. I also served the apples over vanilla ice cream instead of whip cream, which was delicious.
Ingredients
- 5 or 6 crisp, tart apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp or Paula Red, peeled and cored
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon flaky sea salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vanilla ice cream to serve with the apples
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Slice each apple into 1/2-inch wedges — you should have a generous 4 cups.
- Stir the butter, sugar, spices, salt and vanilla together in a bowl.
- Toss the apples with the butter and transfer to a shallow baking dish.
- Roast the apples about 20-25 minutes, until they soften and juices are caramelized and bubbling.
- Let cool 5 minutes. Serve the apples warm over vanilla ice cream.
