New Years in Cape Coral

One December 30th, we headed to Cape Coral, Florida to spend a few days in the warm sun before heading home to the arctic tundra of New York. After returning back from Maui at Thanksgiving, we decided we needed more beach time and booked at The Westin Cape Coral. We have so many hotel points from all of my work travel so we decided to put them to good use. Our only requirements were a Starwoods property near a beach that has warm weather and that's how we ended up in Cape Coral. The hotel was nice and we ended up getting upgraded to a suite with a full kitchen, dinning/living room, which was great. We were able to make breakfast and lunch there and enjoyed dinner out. The weather was beautiful and we really enjoyed relaxing and doing nothing...great way to ring in the New Year!
Fireworks over the marina at our hotel
Pretty palm trees
We took a day trip on New Year's Day to Sanibel Island and hung out at the beach. We saw all kinds of dolphins, which was pretty cool and I had my sandwich stolen out of my bare hand by a seagull! I kid you not, it was the craziest thing that happened...I was holding my sandwich and went to pass Tyler some crackers when a seagull swooped in from behind and took my entire sandwich out of my hand...it was nuts! Tyler looked up reviews on the beach when we got back and several people had the same thing happen to them!
We took the water taxi from the marina at our hotel to Fort Myers Beach. It was a 40 minute water taxi ride and was surprisingly fun. We saw a few dolphins and lots of pretty birds along the way. We spent three hours at the beach and enjoyed a DQ Blizzard before taking the water taxi back.
